Created for the purpose of flood control in 1956, Wright Patman Lake supports a wide array of recreational opportunities. The numerous parks around the lake provide ample resources for water-based activities. The lake supports abundant populations of white bass and hybrid striped bass. Crappie and catfishing is also very good on the lake. Largemouth bass are found in moderate numbers but, quality-sized fish are present. Large amounts of vegetation can be found in the lake and vast areas of submerged timber provide habitat for fish.
